OMB M-26-14 Compliance: Adaptive Edge Logging for Federal CISOs
Akamai Technologies, Tuesday, August 4th, 2026
Akamai explains how federal CISOs can meet OMB M-26-14 logging rules using adaptive edge logging instead of central raw storage.
OMB Memorandum M-26-14 replaces M-21-31 with a flexible, risk-based approach to federal logging, ending the requirement to store all raw log data centrally.
It establishes two objectives: continuous event monitoring searchable for at least six months, and threat hunting and forensics retrievable for at least twelve months.
That shift lets agencies filter traffic at the network edge and reduce cost, and Akamai positions App & API Protector and Guardicore Segmentation to deliver real-time detection and infrastructure mapping aligned to Zero Trust.
Federal CISOs must submit Agency Logging Plans within 90 days of CISA publishing its Logging Reference Architecture.
