AMD acquires Toronto-based AI inference silicon startup Taalas to strengthen its inference roadmap.
AMD has acquired Taalas, a Toronto-based company founded in 2023 that specializes in AI inference silicon. Taalas technology targets the compute and memory bottlenecks that general-purpose architectures hit on inference workloads.
AMD plans to fold those innovations into its accelerator roadmap and build system-level solutions alongside AMD Instinct GPUs as part of its broader AI platform.
The deal is positioned to strengthen AMD's standing in the fast-growing AI inference market while reinforcing its investment in Canadian engineering talent.
