The NVM Express consortium announced updates to all 11 NVMe specification documents, introducing PCIe Exported NVM Subsystem Migration to enable virtual machine mobility without storage reconfiguration.
The enhancement abstracts physical drives into virtualized subsystems, letting VMs migrate between servers while maintaining storage consistency.
Additional updates include post-quantum cryptography support using NIST-approved quantum-resistant algorithms, rate limiting for quality-of-service controls, and voltage monitoring for device health detection.
The specifications now encompass the NVMe 2.4 Base Specification and multiple transport layer specifications.
