AWS Adds Vector Search to Managed DynamoDB Database Service

Techstrong.ai, Wednesday, August 5th, 2026

AWS enhances DynamoDB with native vector search for AI applications without a separate vector database.

Amazon Web Services introduced vector search capabilities to its serverless DynamoDB database, letting organizations store embeddings and perform similarity searches with single-digit millisecond latency.

The new vector index supports configurable dimensions, distance functions, and metadata filtering, while the SearchVectors API returns up to 100 ranked results.

This removes the need to deploy and operate a separate vector database, reducing operational complexity.

The serverless architecture scales automatically for bursty AI workloads, so teams pay only for consumed infrastructure rather than provisioning capacity in advance.
