Palo Alto Networks revealed that frontier AI models identified 14,090 zero-day vulnerabilities across 3,915 open-source projects in two months, with 99.4% previously unreported.
The research found 92% of AI-discovered flaws target complex application logic and authorization bypasses rather than memory corruption.
To counter machine-speed threats, Palo Alto launched PAN-OS 12.2 Ceres featuring Advanced Virtual Patching that provides network-level protection within hours, autonomous Network Security Agents, and Advanced IP Defense.
Security teams should shift from traditional patch management to network-layer virtual patching, audit supply chain dependencies deeply, and prioritize identity-centric access controls.
