Amazon Bedrock Expands API Support and Introduces Cross-Region Inferencing for OpenAI Models

Bedrock adds Responses, Converse and Chat Completions API support plus cross-Region inference for OpenAI GPT-5.6 models.
Amazon Bedrock now supports the OpenAI GPT-5.6 models (Sol, Terra and Luna) on the bedrock-runtime endpoint, with support for the Responses, Converse and Chat Completions APIs.
The update also adds cross-Region inference, letting customers use Global and Geo profiles to reach higher throughput and lower inference costs. Cross-Region inference automatically routes requests across multiple AWS Regions so customers do not have to manage capacity Region by Region.
Geo cross-Region inference confines routing to a predefined geography for customers with data residency requirements. The change makes OpenAI models on Bedrock behave more like the rest of the Bedrock model catalog.
