Amazon Location Service Now Supports POI Category and Density Filtering in Map Styles
AWS, Monday, August 17th, 2026
Amazon Location Service adds server-side control over which point-of-interest categories and how many appear on a map.
Amazon Location Service added per-category and density-based point-of-interest filtering to its maps. Developers gain server-side control over POI density and which categories of places appear, configured through the GetStyleDescriptor API.
mazon Location Service is a managed service for adding maps, places, routing and tracking to applications using high-quality geospatial data.
Previously every map style rendered all POI categories, and developers who wanted to tailor the result relied on a client-side workaround. Moving the filtering server-side reduces payload size and removes that workaround.
