CoCo: Snowflake's AI Coding Agent for Data Engineers

Snowflake, Friday, September 4th, 2026

Snowflake makes the case for data engineers to move from one-off prompts to reusable CoCo skills and plugins.

Snowflake urges data engineers who are not yet using AI coding agents regularly to start with CoCo, pointing to documentation and quickstarts for the CoCo CLI and desktop app that walk through installation, first queries and session management using real Snowflake examples.

For engineers already using coding agents, the argument is to move beyond one-off prompts and start building reusable skills and plugins, which is where the compounding returns are.

Snowflake's Plugins Catalog lets teams deploy plugins to a built-in registry so they can be shared and discovered across an organization with native governance and access control. The post frames this as making agent-assisted data engineering reproducible rather than ad hoc.
