AWS details how WAF Bot Control can verify AI agent traffic where IP-based filtering breaks down in shared multi-tenant environments.
As AI agents increasingly access web applications programmatically, separating legitimate automation from malicious traffic has become a hard security problem.
AWS explains why traditional defenses fail: IP-based filtering and reverse DNS lookups break in multi-tenant systems such as Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, where thousands of distinct workloads share the same IP space.
Attackers can trivially impersonate agent traffic under those conditions. The post walks through using AWS WAF Bot Control to cryptographically authenticate agent requests instead of inferring trust from network origin, giving application owners a way to admit sanctioned agents while blocking impostors.
