Agent Identity: Agents That Act And Appear As Themselves

Glean, Wednesday, July 15th, 2026

Glean opens agent identity to public beta, letting AI agents run on their own service credentials instead of borrowing a user's.

Glean released agent identity in public beta so AI agents operate under their own service account credentials rather than impersonating the user who created them.

Agents appear as distinct entities across Slack, Jira, and GitHub with their own presence and accountability. Access becomes scoped, decoupling who can invoke an agent from what data the agent is trusted to reach.

Agents also run independently of user sessions, so scheduled work survives vacations and credential rotations. Audit trails attribute actions to the agent account, keeping automated and human activity distinguishable for compliance.
