Google, Thursday, July 16th, 2026
Google Earth launches an interactive archive of Estadio Azteca built with Fundacion ICA, spanning the stadium's six-decade history.
Google Earth published an interactive experience documenting Mexico City's Estadio Azteca, created with Fundacion ICA. The stadium recently became the first in the world to host matches in three global soccer tournaments, in 1970, 1986, and 2026.
The feature pairs archival imagery with a digital interface so users can move through the venue's six-decade history. Photos run from the 1961 opening through each of its tournament years. Google positions the project as preserving cultural landmarks through mapping and archival collaboration.
