Shaking Up the Radio Access Network With SUSE and OCUDU

SUSE validated the OCUDU open RAN stack on SUSE Telco Cloud, hitting roughly 1.4 Gbps downlink on commodity servers.
SUSE described work integrating the OCUDU RAN stack onto SUSE Telco Cloud to show that open source telecom infrastructure can match proprietary systems on performance.
The validation ran on standard Intel Xeon processors and Supermicro servers, using a software-defined radio emulator rather than costly physical radio hardware to make testing more affordable.
Through CPU isolation, memory optimization and network layer tuning, the team reached roughly 1.4 Gbps downlink and 100 Mbps uplink.
SUSE argues the result shows disaggregating the telco stack is no longer experimental, and that operators can move away from rigid proprietary vendor ecosystems toward flexible architectures built on commodity hardware and open source software.
