Introducing Selfie for Sign-In: A New, Easy Way to Access Your Google Account
Google, Thursday, July 23rd, 2026
Google adds selfie-video account recovery with liveness and deepfake protections.
Google introduced a "selfie video" authentication method that helps users regain access to their Google Account when locked out or without their usual devices.
Setup involves recording a short video with guided head movements to capture multiple angles, and later sign-ins record another selfie compared against the stored video to verify identity.
The feature uses multiple security layers, including liveness detection and deepfake prevention. Videos are encrypted, remain under user control, and can be deleted at any time.
