Amazon OpenSearch Service Now Supports OpenSearch Version 3.7

AWS, Thursday, July 30th, 2026

OpenSearch 3.7 brings 1-bit scalar quantization on Faiss and Lucene, cutting vector storage and memory needs.

Amazon OpenSearch Service now runs OpenSearch version 3.7, which improves vector search performance, search relevance, and Query Insights.

The headline change is 1-bit scalar quantization on the Faiss and Lucene engines, compressing vectors to reduce the storage and memory required by vector workloads while preserving recall within acceptable bounds.

Query Insights improvements give operators better visibility into expensive queries. The release is available for new domains and as an upgrade path for existing ones. It matters most for teams running retrieval workloads at scale where vector memory dominates cost.
