Amazon RDS for MariaDB Now Supports MariaDB 12.3

AWS, Tuesday, August 11th, 2026

Amazon RDS for MariaDB adds support for MariaDB 12.3, the community's latest long-term support release.

Amazon RDS for MariaDB now supports MariaDB major version 12.3, the latest Long-Term Support release from the MariaDB community, starting with minor version 12.3.2.

The release adds Oracle TO_DATE() function compatibility, reducing code changes needed when migrating applications from Oracle to MariaDB.

It also introduces an IS JSON predicate so JSON documents can be validated natively in the database rather than in application code. The query optimiser handles reorderable LEFT JOIN statements and ordered scans over RANGE partitions more efficiently, improving performance without application changes. Customers can upgrade existing RDS for MariaDB instances to the new version.
