AWS IAM Now Provides Role Manager to Set up IAM Roles Automatically

AWS, Wednesday, August 12th, 2026

AWS IAM role manager reaches general availability, creating default service roles automatically in the console.

AWS announced general availability of role manager, an IAM capability that automatically sets up the IAM roles AWS services need. When a customer sets up a supported service in the console, role manager creates a default role on their behalf, or reuses an existing account role if it already matches the required permissions.

The capability can be enabled or disabled at any time, and customers can inspect the AWS-managed templates that role manager deploys. Role manager supports six AWS service consoles at launch, including AWS Lambda and Amazon EventBridge.

As an example, creating a Lambda function triggers role manager to apply the appropriate template.
