Why Business Leaders Need to Take Quantum Seriously

TechTarget, Tuesday, August 19th, 2025

Quantum computing, sensing, and communication sit on different maturity curves that business leaders should act on now.

EDHEC Quantum Institute deputy director Camille Georges divides quantum technologies into computing, sensing, and communication, each on a different maturity curve.

Quantum computers remain noisy intermediate-scale systems, but because algorithms must be redesigned for them, businesses should build capability before fault-tolerant machines arrive. Quantum sensing is already deployed in cardiac diagnosis and GPS-free navigation.

A June 2026 US executive order set a 2031 deadline for high-value systems to migrate to post-quantum cryptography, and France will certify only quantum-safe products from 2027. With over $12 billion invested in quantum startups in 2025, the author advises appointing a Chief Quantum Officer and testing quantum against one real business problem.
