Uncover the Threat Intelligence Already in Your Backups

Veeam, Thursday, August 13th, 2026

Veeam argues backup data already contains threat intelligence security teams are not using.

Veeam argues that backups hold threat intelligence organisations are failing to exploit during incidents.

The post opens with the scenario of security confirming an intrusion and every question landing on the backup team: what was hit, when did it start, and which backup can be trusted.

Teams typically dig through separate consoles while every minute of downtime makes those answers more expensive.

Veeam notes that in most organisations security operations and IT backup teams work in parallel rather than together, and attackers know it. Since ransomware attacks target backups directly as the last line of defence, Veeam argues that data should be feeding detection rather than sitting inert.
