Autonomous Triage, Human Oversight: A Day in the Life of a Threat Analyst in an Agentic SOC

Security Boulevard, Wednesday, October 14th, 2026

In an agentic SOC, AI handles routine triage while Tier 2 analysts become threat hunters and governors of AI agents.

The author walks through a Tier 2 analyst's day in an agentic SOC, where AI agents handle triage, correlation, evidence gathering and enrichment while a QA agent checks their work.

The day starts with agent performance metrics rather than an alert backlog.

Suggested targets include an autonomous closure rate of around 85% (97% in some environments), investigations starting within 5 to 7 minutes, multi-vector triage in 8 to 24 minutes and about 15% of cases escalated at a 90%-plus true-positive rate.

Human-in-the-loop approvals, daily QA and continuous agent tuning keep the automation accountable.
