Databricks introduced Vital Skills, open-source Agent Skills that give coding agents healthcare and life sciences domain expertise, designed especially for its Genie Code agent.
Databricks says general agents write plausible code but silently pick clinical thresholds and generic statistical methods that do not meet HLS standards.
The skills, built by field engineers, ask users before assuming key decisions, rely on tested tools rather than improvised code, and were validated side by side.
On the BiomniBench biomedical benchmark, Genie Code with Vital Skills scored higher on in-scope tasks with no negative impact on out-of-scope ones.
