ISO 42001 Checklist: A Gap Analysis Guide for Responsible AI
Kratikal, Wednesday, October 28th, 2026
Kratikal outlines an ISO 42001 checklist and six-step gap analysis process for assessing AI governance against the standard.
Kratikal's guide explains how to use an ISO/IEC 42001 checklist to run a gap analysis comparing an organization's AI practices with the AI management system standard.
It says a gap analysis can expose governance shortfalls, reduce risks such as bias and misuse, clarify accountability, and set priorities before certification.
The checklist spans eight areas, including scope, leadership, AI risk and impact assessment, data quality, lifecycle controls, transparency, supplier management, and internal audits, and the guide recommends six steps from defining scope to verifying improvements.
The FAQ notes a checklist does not guarantee certification and that ISO 27001 controls only partly cover AI-specific risks.
