Trace Voice Agents with Datadog Agent Observability

Datadog, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Datadog Agent Observability can now capture audio in traces for voice agents built on the OpenAI Realtime API, and adds Amazon Nova 2 Sonic tracing.

The post says transcripts alone can hide problems like silence, delayed or incomplete audio, or interruptions.

For supported OpenAI Realtime API apps, automatic instrumentation captures each turn's input and output audio, transcripts, token usage and tool calls, and Datadog converts PCM16 and G.711 audio to WAV so it can be played from the trace.

Teams can listen to turns beside trace data, find slow or high-usage interactions, and investigate interruptions and incomplete transcripts.

Tracing for Amazon Nova 2 Sonic is added in the Python and Node.js tracers.
