GitHub Bets on Multi-Agent Software Development With Copilot Overhaul

InfoWorld, Friday, October 30th, 2026

GitHub announced a redesigned Copilot app and a Projects feature to coordinate multiple AI coding agents across repositories, at GitHub Universe.

At GitHub Universe, GitHub said it is expanding Copilot beyond code generation with a redesigned app that acts as a central workspace for AI-driven development.

Beyond running agent sessions and reviewing diffs, developers can work on specifications, join design discussions and analyze application telemetry, and connect external tools and project information.

The new Copilot Projects feature lets developers assign broader goals spanning multiple repositories, supplying context from repositories, design mockups, Slack conversations and meeting notes.

Copilot then distributes work across agents running in parallel, tracks progress and returns results such as pull requests for review.
