Shrink the Move, Retire What You Leave Behind with SAP Data Archiving

OpenText, Wednesday, October 28th, 2026

OpenText explains how SAP data archiving and application decommissioning shrink an S/4HANA migration and retire legacy systems.

The post argues that every terabyte carried into S/4HANA adds cost, testing time and long-term management, citing one automotive company that archived 16 of 30 terabytes in its RISE with SAP move, removing a budget barrier.

Archiving separates active data, which moves to S/4HANA, from inactive data kept in a searchable governed archive for audits and lookups.

Decommissioning ends legacy applications running only for lookups, which otherwise add cost and governance exposure.

It recommends auditing before migrating to decide which applications stay and which can be retired, and promotes OpenText Core Archive for SAP Solutions.
