TechRadar, Thursday, October 29th, 2026
Onnec research finds UK, Irish and Nordic data centers expect to lose almost a quarter of staff to retirement within a decade.
TechRadar Pro reports on an Onnec survey of 300 senior data center decision-makers in the UK, Ireland and the Nordic countries.
Operators expect between 18 and 25 percent of roles to need replacing due to retirement, around 6,340 directly employed workers between 2031 and 2036, and 10 percent of businesses expect more than 40 percent of staff to retire.
Expected retirement rates are about 19 percent in the UK, 24 percent in Ireland and 28 percent in the Nordics.
Onnec's Matt Salter says operators already struggle to hire and urges investment in apprenticeships, mentoring and clear career paths.
